Spoonfuls seeks a full-time Director, Individual Giving to help us significantly grow our individual giving, major giving, cultivation, and stewardship efforts. As a key member of the Management team and in partnership with the Head of Function, the Director, Individual Giving will help develop and execute a strategy to grow both annual and major gifts. Together they will design a structured, intentional fundraising program that prioritizes relationships over transactions, attracts and retains philanthropic investment, strengthens donor engagement, and builds a sustainable revenue pipeline through clear portfolio management In coordination with the full development team, this role will help the organization achieve its mission by shaping and implementing a successful fundraising strategy and plan.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a Development Manager and serve on the Management Team, working in collaboration with the full development team and other external advisors to achieve fundraising goals
  • Work collaboratively with the Head of Function, the Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations and the Events Manager to develop, and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet strategic organizational goals, and contribute to development team reporting
  • Partner with Communications to execute the strategy for the annual fund, including direct mail, email, and digital campaigns
  • Manage year-round cultivation and stewardship for annual donors to increase retention and upgrade rates
  • Manage and grow a major gift portfolio primarily consisting of individual donors and family foundations, and steward cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts, in conjunction with the full development team
  • In conjunction with the Head of Function, further develop the goals, strategy and engagement plan for the Ambassador Council, quantifying the group’s intended purpose and impact to expand our giving portfolio and organizational supporters and network
  • Take the lead on Spoonfuls’ annual participation in the Boston Marathon, serve as point of contact with the Marathon corporate sponsor for this event, (currently Bank of America) and managing Spoonfuls’ bib allocation and running team with help from the Events Manager.
  • Supervise the Development Manager whose responsibilities include ensuring development operations best practices, accurate and timely gift processing, donor contact, and regular reconciliation between Development and Finance teams
  • Work with the Events Manager and the development team to support a successful slate of fundraising events by informing on guest attendance, event goals and providing post event reconciliation and gift processing
  • Achieve and maintain accuracy and complete profiles and relationship data in Salesforce with discretion and know-how
  • Support the mission and vision of Spoonfuls as the organization advances into the next phase of the strategic plan
  • Participate in Management team meetings and contribute to the organization’s direction, scope, and culture. On request, be prepared to participate and present to Senior leadership

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate Spoonfuls’ mission and engage donors
  • Adept at enrolling senior stakeholders in the work and leading through influence and relationships
  • Skill in aligning fundraising plans with broader organizational strategy
  • Experience in setting measurable fundraising targets and tracking progress through reporting and analysis
  • Capacity to prioritize opportunities, balance long-term cultivation with short-term revenue goals, and adapt strategies as needed
  • Skilled in developing and maintaining effective and supportive cross-functional, relationships to achieve organizational goals
  • Excellent judgement and discretion when working with external stakeholders and donors, including making appropriate notes in Salesforce and other organizational databases and records

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience raising $1.5-2M in a fiscal year through individual donor contributions, and/or being a contributing member of a team responsible for raising $5-7M+
  • Experience in building and managing a portfolio of individual donors and family foundations
  • Experience securing major gifts, as well as donor stewardship
  • Experience developing and implementing annual giving strategies that increase donor engagement and revenue.
  • Proven track record of revenue growth and ability to manage a budget, and deliver on leadership expectations
  • Experience working within a team to achieve results through receiving feedback, giving feedback and offering supportive and inspirational management where appropriate and assigned
  • Excellent relationship building skills, both internally and externally, as well as strong management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management, and attention to detail
  • Willingness and ability to work occasional evenings

Hours:

Full-Time, Exempt: Must be available 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, though schedules may vary day to day. Spoonfuls operates with a hybrid work schedule, meaning employees must be in the office a minimum of 2-3 days a week, and are able to work from home on the remaining days.

Physical Demands:

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing and materials management is required. This would require the ability to move files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Some tasks outside the office may be required (attending meetings, attending events, shipping materials, etc.).
