
The Membership & Partnership Trainee will be a valuable addition to the BNID team by supporting BNID’s efforts to grow and re-engage its network of members and partners. The trainee will conduct membership and partnership development, including prospect research, relationship tracking, and member communications. This role reports directly to the Executive Director. This role is part-time and flexible (work remotely at flexible hours).
About BNID
The Boston Network for International Development (BNID) serves as a point of connection for groups and individuals in the Greater Boston area who are concerned with issues of international development, human rights, global justice, peacebuilding, humanitarian aid, and related sectors. BNID serves as a convenor and network weaver to support community growth and collective learning through programs on current events, career development, non-profit management, and more.
Learning objectives and activities
By completing this internship, the individual will gain the following:
- Practical experience in nonprofit membership and partnership development.
- Hands-on exposure to prospect research, relationship-tracking, and outreach strategies in a small nonprofit organization.
- Experience conducting interviews and writing organizational profiles/spotlights for publication.
As updated from time to time by mutual agreement between the Executive Director and the Intern/Trainee, the Intern/Trainee will:
- Receive hands-on training from the Executive Director on the development of member and partner outreach strategy and relationship-building approaches.
- Receive hands-on training from the Executive Director on prospect research methods and use of membership database and outreach tracking systems.
- Shadow the Executive Director at meetings related to member and partner relationship management.
- Work with the Executive Director to identify and research prospective new members and partners, draft outreach communications, and re-engage lapsed member organizations.
- Conduct interviews with current member organizations and draft member spotlight features for the BNID newsletter and social media.
Time commitment: Approximately 8-10 hours per week
Award: $350 at the start of the internship
Dates: September 2026 – January 2027 (exact dates to be agreed on)
Location: Intern must be based in the Greater Boston area
Skills and Qualifications
- Graduate student or recent graduate with a degree in international development, nonprofit management, public policy, political science, business, or a related field
- Experience conducting prospect or organizational research through a school project, job, or internship
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to draft professional outreach and narrative content
- Comfortable working with spreadsheets and digital organizational tools; familiarity with CRM or membership database platforms a plus
- Self-directed and able to manage time independently in a remote, part-time setting
- Curious and proactive, with a genuine interest in nonprofit organizational development and community-building
- Self-aware and reflective about the dynamics of international development and global justice
