Organization Background

Nurturing Minds is a US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to support quality education, life skills, and entrepreneurship to help at-risk girls in Tanzania become leaders in their communities. Currently, Nurturing Minds achieves this through partnership and support of Secondary Education for Girls’ Advancement (SEGA), a community-based non-governmental organization based in Tanzania whose purpose is to improve the quality of life for Tanzanian girls.

Founded in 2008, Nurturing Minds and SEGA now serve over 4,000 girls and young women annually through the development and operation of a quality secondary boarding school, a continuing education scholarship and career development program, a community outreach program that brings elements of SEGA’s life skills and entrepreneurship programs to girls in rural communities throughout Tanzania, and a graduate’s business development program providing business skills and micro-loans to small business owners and entrepreneurs.

The Opportunity

Nurturing Minds seeks a Communications Coordinator for a mid-level position offering an exciting opportunity to grow as a storyteller, communications professional, and nonprofit leader while helping advance an organization with global impact. Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director, the Communications Coordinator will play a key role in telling the story of Nurturing Minds and SEGA as the organizations enter their 20th year. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.

The Communications Coordinator will lead day-to-day content and digital communications, develop compelling stories and donor-facing materials, and help maintain a consistent organizational voice across channels. The role will collaborate with the Executive Director, staff, Board Communications Committee, SEGA colleagues, and external partners on broader communications initiatives, with opportunities to take ownership of projects and build new skills.

A major first-year initiative will be Nurturing Minds’ 20th anniversary, including helping promote an anniversary book. This is an opportunity to contribute to a significant organizational milestone while building a portfolio of meaningful, high-impact communications work.

This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere within the U.S. Employees are expected to primarily work between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. ET, with some flexibility based on location and organizational needs. Occasional U.S. travel is required for board meetings, events, and other activities, with potential opportunities for international travel to Tanzania to visit SEGA.
