Peace Tracks, a cross-cultural, music-focused online exchange for youth that amplifies global youth voices for peace through music, empathy and creative collaboration, is looking for US high schools to participate in the Spring 2025 session starting March 17th. There is no cost to participate, as the program is funded by a US State Department grant administered by the Stevens Initiative/Aspen Institute.
Since 2021, Peace Tracks has worked with youth in the US, Ukraine, Lebanon, Palestine, Morocco, Jordan and Kazakhstan. We are currently working with youth in the US, Palestine, Morocco and Jordan.
Each session begins with participants sharing about themselves and their cultures on Microsoft Teams. Participants then discuss themes of world challenges and causes that are important to them. These global themes then become themes for songs. Participants choose which songs they would like to work on. With guidance from music teachers, participants then collaborate on writing lyrics, and creating, performing, recording, and mixing music for the songs using Soundtrap, a collaborative digital audio workstation. Next, students collaborate on creating a storyboard for each song’s music video, gathering video footage, and editing the music videos using WeVideo, a collaborative video editing platform. Occasional live video meetings on Microsoft Teams help students get to know each other better. The session culminates in a live-streamed concert on YouTube featuring the original songs and music videos with participants celebrating each other’s work through a live chat. Music experience is not required to participate in Peace Tracks.
