Grant Writer

Founded in 1999, BUILD’s mission is to use entrepreneurship to ignite the power of youth in under-resourced communities to build career success, entrepreneurial mindsets, and opportunity. BUILD currently serves over 2,000 high school students annually across regional hubs including Boston.

The part-time Grant Writer will be primarily responsible for writing and submitting compelling grant applications and reports that attract new institutional funders and inspire BUILD’s existing ones. This is an exceptional opportunity for someone looking for a mostly remote and flexible schedule to play a key role in the organization’s growth.

Responsibilities

• Write and submit compelling applications for corporate and foundation funding (approx. 40% of BUILD Boston’s $1.9M revenue)
• Write and submit required progress and final reports in a timely manner
• Develop deep knowledge of BUILD’s program, data, funding priorities and strategic plans
• Increase BUILD’s pipeline by sourcing new aligned foundations; research grant guidelines and deadlines
• Update the Grant Tool Kit and manage proposals in Raiser’s Edge CRM
• Participate in weekly team meetings (virtual), annual retreats (in person), and occasional program events

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of proven success with grant writing
• Excellent writing and computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google apps)
• Highly organized with ability to meet tight deadlines
• Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or similar donor management software preferred
• Knowledge of nonprofit budgeting and grant proposal/report budgets
• Ability to collaborate effectively with remote colleagues
• Passionate commitment to BUILD’s mission

Compensation & Details

Part-time, hourly (~20 hours/week, self-directed). $30–$40/hour. Location: Boston preferred, open to within New England; primarily remote/flexible with occasional in-person commitments (~1–2x per quarter). Benefits include 403(b) with match, generous vacation/sick time, and paid Federal holidays.
